What the heck am I thinking? Yes, I’m contemplating doing this crazy Whole30 thang. Heard of it? I’m sure you have. In case you haven’t, here’s a simple run down: For 30 days you eat nothing but “real” food. Sounds easy, right? Here’s the kicker. You cannot have the following…
No sugars, like ANY – nothing artificial, not even honey or real maple syrup (I’m already dying)
No grains (And…. I’m dead)
No legumes – i.e., beans, peanuts (I eat a peanut butter sandwich every.single.day.)
No dairy (Um, hello cheese is my life)
No alcohol (Ok, I already went 8.5 years without it recently, can that count?)
Basically you eat meat, seafood, veggies and fruit. And drink water. Blah. But the more I read about it, the more intrigued I am. As with everything else in my life, I get that I’m totally late to the trendy game here. Most have prob already been there, done that. That’s what this post is for. I would LOVE to hear your experiences – the good, the bad and the ugly.
Hubs has agreed to go along with me on this crazy journey which makes all the difference. I know he can do it, I’m not sure I can. When it comes to food, I have ZERO willpower. I’m not sure how I made it through lent without any sugar. Although, I wasn’t super strict. I still allowed myself honey, maple syrup, fruit, etc. And all I did was eat WAY too much of everything else. Pretty sure I actually gained weight!
Why am I contemplating doing this? The few I’ve told up to this point have asked so here goes… I have issues. No, I’m not doing it as a big weight loss initiative. Yes, I would like to feel better in a bathing suit. I realize exercise needs to creep into my life at some point too. One hurdle at a time, please. While I don’t have any major, life threatening health problems I do have my fair share of things to deal with. Migraines, lots of digestive stuff and fatigue just to name a few. And, no I do not want to try __________ (fill in the blank). Please do not try to sell me anything. I am all about n-a-t-u-r-a-l. Acupuncturist here, remember? The thing that intrigues me most about Whole30 is the fact that you are literally healing your body with real foods.
The reintroduction phase (after your 30 days are up) makes so much sense. You basically introduce one food group at a time. Try some sugars one day, then go back to Whole30 for two days. Monitor your bod and see how it affects you. Then, the same with grains for one day – Whole30 for two days. Monitor. Repeat with legumes, dairy, alcohol, etc. Then you can see for yourself how these types of food affect you.
Ok, so, I want to hear from you! Am I crazy? Have you done Whole30? Tell me alllll ’bout it! Comment below, FB me, Insta, or email me at foodieblogstalker (at) gmail (dot) com. Meanwhile, I’ll be reading up on it, (secretly) pinning Whole30 recipes and waiting to hear from ya. Thanks for your input friends!
