Who knew BBQ sauce had SO much sugar in it?! So I made my own. Ok, ok. It might be cheating. Is molasses cheating? Well, if it is, I’m ok with it. Because I made MY OWN BBQ SAUCE! Well, I made Ali’s Homemade BBQ Sauce. Because Ali is a ROCK STAR. She’s the infamous blogger over at Gimme Some Oven. We’re besties. In my head. No, but really. Head on over to her corner of the internet and you’ll find the best combination of incredible recipes and gorgeous photography. One of my top 3 all-time FAV bloggers by far. Woot Woot! You will love this homemade mouth watering bbq sauce version because it’s super easy and makes you feel like a kitchen rock star. I mean, who makes their own bbq sauce? Well, Ali does. But now you do too! Not gonna lie, I was wary it wouldn’t get thick and rich like the storebrought brands that are near and dear to my heart. Sweet baby ray, here’s lookin’ at you. No need to fret! It thickens up like whoaaaa. And the taste is perfection. Smoky, a little sweet, stick-to-your ribs (literally) GOOD.
I’m not a huge BBQ person. Having married the hubs-o-mine, that changed. He is o-b-s-e-s-s-e-d with the ‘que. His favorite thing to do? Smoked meats. Mmmmm… Him and his trusty smoker are quite the mighty duo. Applewood smoked turkey for T-Day, mesquite smoked tri-tip for a special occasion, whole smoked chickens to shred and pile on burger buns loaded with coleslaw, oh my. I think it’s time for him to break out that smoker. As you can tell, he loves his BBQ. So when it comes to the sauce he is quite the connoisseur. Is there a thing for that? Like sommelier’s for wine? If so, he would love that job. Professional BBQ sauce tester person. Not quite as fancy as “sommelier” eh?
Ok, ok. Back to the sauce. You literally dump all ingredients into a saucepan, whisk, bring to a simmer, lower heat & let it simmer for 20 minutes. That is ALL. I let it cool and packaged it up. It will keep in your fridge for one week but I promise you will eat it all up before then. We ate ours on the best darn fall-off-the-bone ribs ever (recipe coming soon!) and still have some leftover. BBQ Chicken Salad, I’m comin’ for ya. This Homemade BBQ Sauce is literally lick-yo-fingers scrum-diddly-umptious.
